Currently the Alzheimer Society of Kenora/Rainy River Districts is responsible for a large geographic region of the North
West of Ontario. This area encompasses the Districts of Kenora and Rainy River. The community of Atikoken is provided
services through the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay.
Some of the Communities that are served by the Alzheimer Society of Kenora/Rainy River Districts are: Red Lake, Ear Falls,
Sioux Lookout, Hudson, Ignace, Dryden, Vermilion Bay, Fort Frances, Emo, Rainy River, Sioux Narrows, Nestor Falls, Kenora,
along with Fifty One First Nation Reserves.

- 1991 A handful of volunteers meet to establish an Alzheimer Society in the former Town of Kenora.
- 1994 The Alzheimer Society of Kenora was established and incorporated. An office was opened
at the old St. Joseph's Hospital.
- 1994-1995 Initial Board formed.
- 1997 A bequest provided for the hiring of the Society's first part time staff employee. This person
was responsible for fundraising, education and memorials.
- 1999 Care Giver Support Groups were formed in the Communities of Red Lake, Kenora and Dryden.
- 2000 The Five Year Provincial Alzheimer Strategy allowed for the hiring of a full time Public Education Coordinator.
- 2001 A full time Executive Director was hired. Office was re-located to - 450 Laurenson Lane, City of Kenora.
- 2003 The Incorporation statues of the Society changed and this is reflected in the name being changed to "Alzheimer
Society of Kenora/Rainy River Districts." The Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay had in the past serviced
the area known as the District of Rainy River.
- 2004 Moved offices to 137A Main Street, South, Kenora.
October 29th, 2007 we moved to 618-9th Street North, City of Kenora. This location will be our Administrative Center along
with our emergency respite center. We hope that by the summer of 2008 to be operational as a respite center for clients and
families in North West Ontario that are served by the Alzheimer Society Kenora/Rainy River Districts.
