Currently the Alzheimer Society of Kenora/Rainy River Districts is responsible for a large geographic region of the North West of Ontario.  This area encompasses the Districts of Kenora and Rainy River.  The community of Atikoken is provided services through the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay.

Some of the Communities that are served by the Alzheimer Society of Kenora/Rainy River Districts are: Red Lake, Ear Falls, Sioux Lookout, Hudson, Ignace, Dryden, Vermilion Bay, Fort Frances, Emo, Rainy River, Sioux Narrows, Nestor Falls, Kenora, along with Fifty One First Nation Reserves.

  • 1994  The Alzheimer Society of Kenora was established and incorporated.  An office was opened at the old St. Joseph's Hospital.

  • 1997  A bequest provided for the hiring of the Society's first part  time staff employee.  This person was responsible for fundraising, education and memorials.

  • 2003  The Incorporation statues of the Society changed and this is reflected in the name being changed to "Alzheimer Society of Kenora/Rainy River Districts." The Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay had in the past serviced the area known as the District of Rainy River.
  • 2004  Moved offices to 137A Main Street, South, Kenora.

October 29th, 2007 we moved to 618-9th Street North, City of Kenora. This location will be our Administrative Center along with our emergency respite center. We hope that by the summer of 2008 to be operational as a respite center for clients and families in North West Ontario that are served by the Alzheimer Society Kenora/Rainy River Districts.
