Early Behavioral Symptoms of Dementia

  • denial of disability
  • cover ups - making up stories to fill memory gaps
  • withdrawal/disinterest/loss of sponteneity
  • irritability/stubbornness
  • tactlessness/shadowing family around the house
  • inappropriate silliness
  • coming to appointments at the wrong time
  • losing or misplacing things
  • suspicious/accusations of theft or infidelity to spouse
  • uncharacteristic cursing
  • sloppy with work/household/personal appearance
  • napping more, difficulty sleeping or staying awake
  • repeated questions
  • excessive checking of locks, obsessive detail to trivia
  • eating more/forgetting to eat
  • stockpiling items
  • difficulty finding words or finishing thoughts
  • inappropriate behavior or dress in public
  • getting lost driving familiar territory
  • poor judgement/bad decisions.
